Synthesis of the Snod on Synodality
Questionnaire Results Available Online

In the early months of 2022, the Diocese of Metuchen conducted numerous synod listening sessions supporting the synod process. These meetings were held in every deanery across the four-county diocese and by several groups, religious orders, and communities with in-person and virtual gatherings. The Diocese of Metuchen also implemented an online questionnaire that gathered hundreds of responses.

Many ideas and thoughts were expressed in the gatherings and written responses, and this report, submitted to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), is a synthesis of these. Please know of Bishop Checchio’s gratitude for your participation and support of this synodal process. The Synthesis Report is available on our diocesan website:

Navex EthicsPoint

Bishop Checchio, along with the Diocesan Finance Council, has directed the implementation of Navex EthicsPoint as an additional measure of accountability and transparency for the financial practices in our diocesan administration, parishes and institutions. EthicsPoint is an anonymous hotline that provides the opportunity for people with concerns to report suspected financial malfeasance and other violations of ethical conduct in any of our parishes, schools, cemeteries and diocesan institutions without repercussion.

The hotline report would then initiate a confidential, internal inquiry to assure that all measures of propriety are being followed. The process will be overseen by the Office of the Chancellor, working with appropriate offices from the Vicariate for Administration. Certainly, we must all do all that is possible to ensure the integrity of our financial operations on every level and show ourselves to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to us.

Saint Mary's Food Pantry

Food PantryThe Saint Mary Food Pantry is open, and we are working hard to serve our community! Saturday, August 27, is the next food pantry day in St. Pat's Hall from 8:30 - 10 a.m. We are open every fourth Saturday. Let us help you. For emergency needs, please call us at 732-721-7418. Thank you for your support!

St. Mary's Food Pantry could use a little help with donations of baby diapers or Pull-Ups in sizes 5 and 6, please. We have plenty of the smaller sizes - thank you!

Reminder: Please do not leave any donations outside of the entrance to the Food Pantry (St. Pat’s Hall). The best place and time for you to leave your donations is in the vestibule (lobby) of the church, near the American and Papal flags, to the right as you enter the center doors. The church is open during Mass times; please check our bulletin or website for days and times. Please also remember that we are strictly a Food Pantry - we cannot accept or use clothing donations and, as always, please check expiration dates. Thank you so very much for your donations and cooperation!

As always, we thank all of our parishioners for your continual support, both financially and with your generous food donations. We are so very grateful for you all. Thank you for your year-round support that allows us to share your generosity with our neighbors. Without your generosity, we could not do what we do. We would not be as successful as we are.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in becoming Catholic, or have a child RCIAover the age of fourteen who has not been baptized, or were baptized Catholic as a child, but have not celebrated the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation -- we are always taking registration for R.C.I.A. Sessions are held on Sunday mornings, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. If interested, please call Honora DeMaio at 732-816-8514.

Teachers Aides Needed

The St. Mary Religious Education Program is in need of adult aides to assist in the 1st and 3rd grades on Tuesday afternoons, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., beginning on September 17. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact John Kobiernicki at 732-721-1514.

Altar Servers Needed

Altar ServersAltar Servers are needed for all Masses – we welcome students in grade 3 and up who have made their First Communion to become a server.  Three short training sessions take place before being scheduled and new servers are always paired with veterans while they are learning.  Anyone who is interested should contact the Director of Religious Education, John Kobiernicki, at 732-721-1514 or via email at or see any priest or deacon after Mass.

Greeters Anyone wishing to greet fellow parishioners and visitors as they enter the church, or hand out bulletins as they exit after Mass are encouraged to do so. Responding in a special way to Pope Francis' visit to the United States, we especially encourage families to take part in this activity as a group. There's
no commitment, and you never know how holding the door for someone or a kind "good morning" affects someone. Anyone who would like more information may call Pat Regan at 732-727-2768.
